What we promote

Applications for funding are submitted to the respective working group. The working groups operate autonomously. They set their own priorities and decide according to their own funding criteria. Before submitting an application, it is important to read the respective funding criteria carefully.
There are also overlaps, particularly between regional assignment and the topics of the Women's Working Group and the Climate Working Group. The application should first be submitted to the working group where the project is best located according to its own assessment. Subsequent transfers or joint funding by two or more working groups are possible and will arise during the application process.

The following applies in general to all applications:
We only fund individual, self-contained projects; neither long-term institutional funding nor the provision of assistance in individual cases (such as grants or support for personal emergencies) is possible.
Applications can generally be submitted at any time. Where there are deadlines, these will be announced on the relevant working group’s page.
The type of expenses that are funded may vary slightly from one working group (AG) to another. Information on this can be found with the respective working group (AG).
There are no fixed funding rates; working groups tend to distribute smaller sums, rarely more than €10,000 for a project.
Applications are submitted centrally via digital means through the office (stiftung@umverteilen.deand prepared there for the meetings of the respective working group.

Applications must, as a general rule, contain the following information:
Applicant: Project sponsor, address, email address, contact person
Self-presentation of the project sponsor (type of group, association, activities, objectives, etc.)
Project description (objectives, target groups, approach, timetable)
Cost and Funding Plan (Income-Expenditure Statement), with details on the income side regarding own contributions, further applied-for grants from other funding institutions, income from entrance fees, donations, or similar.
As a rule, an informal application is possible. Only a one-page form with the most important information about the project needs to be completed for all working groups (Formular Kurzinfo - Short Information Form).

The working groups meet every four to six weeks. It can therefore quite easily take eight to ten weeks for a decision to be made. As a rule, a member of the working group takes on the processing and contacts the applicants with any queries.
A project can be funded in three ways:
Covering a shortfall as part of an overall cost and financing plan
Reimbursement of certain costs
Through a project-specific donation (only registered charitable organisations based in Germany)
The working groups decide on the best way to support the project in each case, in consultation with the project organiser where necessary.
Depending on the legal form or type of group, it may be necessary to enter into a cooperation agreement with Umverteilen! in order for the grant to be legally valid. This applies in particular if the grant is paid out abroad or if the project is not run by a charitable organisation.
For projects carried out in the Global South, payment is usually made in two instalments. The working groups may also agree to full pre-funding. Individual needs are taken into account. Specific details regarding payment arrangements can be found on the relevant working group’s page.
In the case of project organisers in Germany, particularly established associations, initiatives and groups, it is assumed that funding will be drawn down once the project has been completed. However, the arrangements are flexible. No project should fail due to a lack of funds; therefore, advance payments are possible if pre-financing is not feasible.

As a charitable foundation, Umverteilen! is exempt from tax and is required to account for the use of its funds to the tax authorities. Consequently, every project receiving funding must provide the foundation with a detailed report and a financial statement, including the relevant supporting documents for expenditure, to account for the funds received.
We expect to receive the report and the final invoice no later than three months after the project has been completed. Changes to the project duration and delays may occur and should be communicated as soon as possible.
We are not issuing any guidelines for the content report; we only have a form for a short, one-page report.
We do not provide forms for the financial report either. An income and expenditure statement in table format, to which the submitted expense receipts can be assigned, would be desirable.
An exception is made for project-specific donations: In this case, a donation receipt from the receiving association is sufficient; a brief report on the project carried out would be desirable.
